The Minik Kardes Turkish Day Nursery
Cazenove are transforming the building occupied by Minik Kardes Day Nursery in Dalston East London. The building had small dark and unventilated spaces, a convoluted circulation system and no relation ship between the interior children's spaces and the rear gardens.
Cazenove's designs have addressed both the spatial and environmental issues by demolishing the 1970-'s additions to the nineteenth century terraced buildings, and replacing them with a large unified extension that celebrates the children spaces in relation to each other and the external environment. A central light well has been created bringing light and air to the centre of the building, and allowing views between the different levels of the building.
The project is being funded jointly by the Neighbourhood Nurseries Initiative from the London Boroughs of Hackney and Islington, and through Sure Start Children's Centre Initiative.
